Hiking
Saturday a few of us were able to escape the lab and head up for a hike in the Uluguru Mountains. T's friend, F, drove his truck up to the end of the road - the bumpy, dusty, pot-holed, one-way road - where we began to walk, at what seemed to be quite a brisk pace, up to a village where T knows a guide, S. Only a few wrong turns, we hiked in the general direction, sweating profusely.
We arrived at S's village, where he grows spices and vegetables. We tried cardamon and cinnamon straight from his garden. He was kind and pleased to accompany us up into the forest. The path seemed to get steeper and steeper as we climbed higher and higher. At times, using our hands to pull us up as we stepped along the trail. With hopes of colobus monkies, turacos, and hornbills.
We followed the trail, lined with tiny wildflowers, up to the top of the ridge where we could look down upon the other side of the mountains. The clouds were low, but the scene was still quite spectacular.
We turned around and headed back down. Slipping here and there as my tired legs attempted to get me back down the mountain.
As we neared the truck, the sun was finally breaking through the clouds and provided a beautiful light as it approached the western horizon.

Sound wonderful!
